Raga Jogeshwari

I am new to Indian Classical and my first cd was Ravi Shankar's Spirit of India... which consisted of Jogeshwari (i believe) Alap, Jor, Gat 1, Gat 2 and Raga Hameer.

What time of day is Jogeshwari to be played?

Jogeshwari is a blend of Rageshree and Jog. Since both parent ragas are to be played late at night, it would naturally follow that Jogeshwari is also a late night raga.

cool thanks bibhas!

i would like to share my experience with spirit of india. since this was my first cd i listened to it all the time.. no exaggeration. i had taken a nighttime astronomy class every monday in college and i had to walk across a very large campus to get to class... so i would listen to the cd during the walk every time... the feelings that welled up inside of me is something i just cannot describe. mixing the spirit of india with a cool starry night put me into another realm. i had a feeling that jogeshwari and hameer were night ragas just because of the energy and mood they put me in at night rather than the day. it may sound simple and insignificant to others but that monday night walk was one of my most cherished moments in this life.

You're welcome. I am glad you enjoyed your first ICM CD so much. That is just the tip of the iceberg, there is an infinite world of ICM waiting to be discovered by you and bring you the same kind of rapture and joy as Spirit of India did.

Feel free to ask for recommendations.

Here are some of my favorite flute albums. All may or may not be available now but you could try to get what you can. Itunes and Emusic have a lot of ICM albums for download.

1. Flying Beyond by Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia
2. Meditative Romance by Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia
3. Moonlight Moods by Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia
4. Call of the Valley (Flute, Santoor, Guitar) - Perhaps the best-selling ICM album of all time, an absolute classic.
5. The Bamboo Flautist of His Generation by Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia
6. Bansuri Virtuoso by Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia

Hi
I am a new member, just joined. I wd like to know the carnatic equivalent of Raga Jogeshwari. Also, what is the hindusthani equivalent of Kalyanavasantham.
On a related subject, are there any Bhajan singing groups in and around Anna Nagar Chennai 600101.
Thanks in anticipation.
