My utmost favourite is raag kirwani...I know the aaroha and avaroha, but does anyone know what the vadi and samvadi is? Or/and can anyone tell me about its rasa perhaps?

thanks...

Go to Swarganga.org. It has a raagabase where you will find all relevant information

Technically there is no vadi and samvadi in Kirwani. Being a raga brought over from Carnatic, the scale remains but the interpretation can vary amoung gharanas. To me the shuddha Re is most important.

May I suggest you get George Ruckert's book on Rag Kirwani, as taught by Ust. Ali Akbar Khan. That should keep you going for a while. It's available from AACM, and maybe other places. You can google Rag Kirwani, Ali Akbar Khan, George Ruckert.

Besides shuddha Re, the komal dhaivat is an important note. The Dha-Ga sangati plays an important role as does the nyaas on Re and Dha. I would tend to think that this would be a Dha-vaadi, Re-samvaadi raag but most of the compositions have their Sam on either P or S, so those are obviously important notes.
