The bansuri, one of the oldest musical instruments in India, is a side-blown flute made of bamboo or reed with six or seven holes.

You are lucky to have a guru to study from. Regarding teaching material there is not much information on the net so far although there are a few books that you can consult.

Since you asked for CD/DVD I have heard of some people using a Bansuri Guru CD that is available at some music stores. I haven't personally used it but you can check it out.

Do update us with your progress..

and Happy Flute Playing :)

I was reading Prasad Bhandarkar's website www.bansuriflute.com. I notived that he has recently published a book containing 5000 alankars. You might like tp purchase that as a tarting point to augment your learning from your guru.

Dear Milind,
on my quest for further reading, I clicked on this link, only to find a request for a password......but when I typed into the address box like this - www.bansuriflute.com - I could access the website ok. Might this be because the link you posted has a dot after the 'com'?

I liked the site very much, and will be ordering the 5000 Alankars sometime soon - thank you for that!

best regards,

Ally

There is also a book called "Bansuri Shiksha" by Pt Shrivastav. This is actually the best learning medium book I have come across. Unfortunately it is in Hindi.

However if you can acquaint yourself with the Hindi scirpt (letters for the notes) then you may still be able to use it.

Have fun.

Milind,

I tried to search for the book "Bansuri Shiksha" on the web, but did not find any info material on it. Do you know any website that sells it?

Thanks

I think if bansuri players who are playing for many years can put some alankars which would be helpful for many biginners at a time.

Manu had published few alankars long back but after that there is no update. Manu, cau you put more alankars to help biginners like us. If clips are published that would be excellent..

Thanks.

PPK,
The book that Milind mentioned in a prior post on this thread is very good. Prasad Bhandarkar has compiled alankars and published as an easy, inexpensive ebook that you can purchase from his website - bansuriflute.com
